Introductory Courses
(No Prerequisites)
I-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System (Module 1)
Self-Paced: 2 hours (sent as pre-work for the class)
The module reviews the ICS organization, basic terminology, and common responsibilities.
L-180 Human Factors on the Fireline
Classroom (4-6 hours)
Human Factors on the Fireline establishes an awareness of human performance issues and how those issues can impact fireline job performance. This course addresses human performance content that relates to the individiaul, including situation awareness, communication, decision making, risk management, and teamwork skills. The desired outcome of this training is improved awareness of human performance issues on the fireline so that individual firefighters can integrate more effectively into teams/crews working in dynamic, high-risk environments. The course is appropriate for all entry-level incident personnel.
S-130 Firefighter Training
Classroom (30-35.5 hours)
The purpose of this course is to train type 2 wildland firefighters in basic firefighting skills.
S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
Classroom (6 hours)
Introduces the fire behavior factors that will aid firefighters in the safe and effective control of wildland fires. Designed to be presented primarily through instructor lecture with participant and group discussion.
These four courses are offered together with certificates issued for successful completion.

S-131 Firefighter Type 1 Training
Classroom (8 hours)
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: demonstrate the ability to use fireline reference tools to facilitate the communication and decision making processes; describe how to incorporate and maintain open lines of communication with appropriate personnel; demonstrate the ability to apply the standard operating procedures in the Incident Response Pocket Guide; and demonstrate the ability to apply information found in the Fireline Handbook.
S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior
Classroom (32 hours)
This course is designed to instruct prospective fireline supervisors in wildland fire behavior for effective and safe fire management operations.
These courses are offered together but can be taken individually; certificates issued for successful completion.
All courses offered by The Michigan Prescribed Fire Council are National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) certified.
